Now on hunting rifles for big game, Deer, Bear, etc...

I prefer a .270 bolt action. I like the long range and the little bullet drop. I have taken deer out to around the 230yds range. What do you shoot? Why? What do you like about it? What do you dislike about it?

Hello!
Nice looking blog you have started here.

Ok well,..I take deer with a 1943 Mosin Nagant M38. The caliber is 7.62x54r. 195 grn so it drops a bit over the range of the shot.

This rifle and round is capable of 1,000 yrds +. The rifle is WWII vintage Russian that has been professional reworked to smooth up the action,...correct the head spacing,..install a muzzle brake. and I completed it with an ATI synthetic Monte Carlo sytle stock.

Also I installed a MOJO click type Peep site since I dont use scopes for hunting,....hey,..it give old Bambi a chance right?.....well,...not much of a chance in the 200 to 300 yard range.

I love the rifle for its reach out ability,...but I hate its Tank like muzzle blast,...even with a brake its very harsh.
With a Loaded mag box it only weighs 8 3/4 lbs......not to shabby.
And I like the fact that when out in the woods,..this round will drop most any 4 legged creature in N.America.....very handy if you deer hunt in bear country.

Thanks for the comment. I personally like my Browning A-Bolt .270 WIN with black synthetic stock, and finished with a Swarovski 1.5-6x42 Scope. I have some friends that really like the
.308 round.
